Graded Quiz: Allow students to view their answer

I would like students to be able to see the correct answer immediately after they take the quiz. It's not showing the correct answers for a Graded Quiz. It does work as expected for a Practice Quiz, which is what I used to use.

The message is that the quiz is muted and the student must wait until the instructor has graded it. But this is supposed to be graded automatically. Any suggestions?

This is what it looks like when I edit the quiz: I tried to select/unselect "Only Once After Each Attempt" but it makes no difference. Either way the students doesn't see the corrected answers. I tested it with students and also in "student view".

Check how this quiz shows up in your Gradebook. Does the top of the column indicate that you have turned on "manual" posting of grades for it? If it has, then you need to switch the quiz to "automatic" posting" by clicking on the three dots at the top of the Gradebook column.

Rather than tell your students to "ignore" the grade in Canvas, you should "hide" the total grade percentage. 

1. Go to Course Settings.
2. Scroll down to "More Options."
3. Here, you click a little box to "hide the total grade percentage."

That will solve this problem.

To the Canvas Instructure folks: I really don't understand why Canvas makes it so difficult to find the option to hide this function. What should be done is MOVE this option to "hide" the grade percentage to the Gradebook. It can be incorporated into the gear icon. "Course Settings - More Options" is such a lousy place to hide this very important setting.

P.S. Resetting points for each quiz "globally" would be a nice feature. Don't most people set the same number of points per question?

Dear Susan!

So I couldn't find the "More Option" tab. See my screenshot (a little small as I tried to include the whole screen). I also did not see it in the "gradebook"

But I have a question: If I select the option to hide the total grade percentage, would the students still be able to see the grade for the other assignments? (I have both quizzes and assignments, the points are correct for the assignments, they're only incorrect for the quizzes as they were set automatically upon import)

Update: I have reset the quizzes to "Practice Quiz" and will deal with the grading aspect of things at the end of the semester (as I did last semester). Students are asking me to "grade" their quiz so they can have a second attempt... Oh why did I allow two attempts! Sometimes I can't think straight!

The “more options” link is at the very bottom of the screenshot that you included in your reply to Susan.  It’s below the “Description” text box.  When you click on “more options”, you’ll see some additional check-boxes that you can enable/disable. See the section called “View More Options” near the bottom of this Guide:

I see "more options." It's there at the bottom of the screen, in tiny blue letters under the box. Click on that, and you can "hide" the students' grade percentages as well as do nifty things like pin the most recent announcements to the top of your home page.

****NOTE TO CANVAS DEVELOPERS****

It is almost impossible for less experienced Canvas instructors to figure this out. I mentor several colleagues at my college. Every semester, I have to walk them through this set-up.  The words "more options" in tiny blue letters at the bottom of a page is not helpful. It is not intuitive. Please fix this.

If you enable "Grades" in the students' course navigation bar, your students will be able to easily find the grades for individual assignments, discussions, and quizzes. Hiding the total grade percentage won't affect that.

The students will only see it if the quiz is available. Have you checked your availability window?

Oh silly me! It seems obvious now. I have disabled the totals, it's probably a good idea anyways!

But, clicking on "more options" is not obvious and it's not "silly" to have missed that. It's poor program design.

I did a bit of searching here in the Canvas Community, and I found a related Feature Idea that I think you both would be interested in.  It is called Redesign of "more options" element in course detai... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com).  I realize that this Feature Idea was created almost four years ago, but it is still open for your comments and feedback.  This would be a great place for you to provide your feedback and give it a star rating letting Instructure know why you'd like that "more options" link to be more visible within course "Settings".  The following link describes the star rating system in more detail:

Right now I'm reasonably happy. There's a few things I'd like to be able to tweak, but not really worth fighting for:

After I changed the quizzes to "Practice Quiz" they got moved out of the Assignment area, so I have to redirect the students... strictly speaking a "practice quiz" could still be an assignment... 

Another thing: I've experienced some strange behavior while uploading ready-made quizzes and also while migrating them. A little annoying, but nothing that fiddling around for one hour can't fix. So, for instance, upon import of qti files, the titles are missing in about half the cases, so I have to rename them manually. This is random and sometimes re-uploading makes the title appear correctly. When I migrated the quizzes to another course (from last semester to this semester) all the titles were gone, so I had to rename about 30 quizzes. Also I usually have to re-upload about 10 percent of the quizzes as questions go missing after upload. And as I said earlier, the points I set are ignored and a default of 1 point is set. Not sure if that's a shortcoming of how I made the quizzes, as I converted them from markdown using this Python script https://github.com/gpoore/text2qti and it's always possible that I didn't use the script correctly.

One of my classes the :Let Students See Their Quiz Responses (Incorrect Questions Will Be Marked in Student Feedback)" is greyed out.

I have looked at all the settings and compared it to my other classes and all the settings are the same.

It is set on automatic grading but it does not give me an option to allow students to see their quiz responses.  It is grey.

Any suggestions on where the settings can be changed.
