Grading quizzes where student submit pictures is a nightmare. I teach a class with 140 students and each students submits between 6 and 10 pictures. Unfortunately Speedgrader does not display previews of student-uploaded pictures. This means that the grader needs to manually download somewhere between 1000 and 1400 pictures!! This takes so much time that we will abandon this approach. Curiously, Speedgrader does display any pictures that are part of the quiz. See attached picture.
Two years ago a thread was started to this effect in Canvas Ideas. Several people in the thread justly pointed out that this should not be hard at all to implement — after all any instructor uploaded image shows up without any problem! Here we are in 2022 and this is still not possible?
Hi @emazur,
What question type are you using for these? I'm going to guess you have the set up as a file upload, am I correct? if so, you may want to change them to be an Essay Question instead (even though it sounds illogical). if you set them up as an essay, the students will get to use the full Canvas Rich Content Editor, where they'll be able to upload/embed an image using the image icon. If they do things that way, the embedded image will appear in SpeedGrader and should make things way easier on your end. A couple notes on this though... 1 - It only works for images. 2 - You will be able to see the image and give a score for the question, but not do any annotations on the image.
Hope this helps!
