Students are unable to change their password through the forgot password link at login. I have reviewed your help and it says that they are unable to do if the registration was set up by an institution. Your help instructs contacting the institution’s support staff, which is me, and I do not have any information on how to assist them. Would appreciate your help, this issue comes up with every class. Thank you.

Hi @CarolWadsworth,
If you're a Canvas administrator, you should be able to change a user's password following the How do I manage a user's login information in an a... - Instructure Community guide (see the "update login" section) IF you use build-in Canvas authentication. If you use a third party SSO solution for login, you'd need to follow whatever directions you have for that login provider.
Hope this helps a bit!

Thank you @chriscas. I did locate that feature and had used it to help the student but wasn't sure if that was the best approach. Appreciate your response, thank you!
