I am using the NVDA screenreader to read my equations, however, I am getitng the message "clickable". Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

When I hover over the equation, it gives the message "clickable math" and does not read it. I have tried both Access8Math and Math Player Math Reader without any luck.

Do you know the best equation settings to use, such as Math Renderer, and Show Math As?

Answer: All math content is generated via a third-party tool called MathJax. This tool uses various markup languages to generate math formulae, including MathML. Screen reader support for MathJax and MathML is strong, but depending on the screen reader you use, you may need to switch to a different browser or download an additional plugin so that the screen reader reads the content in an expected manner.

If you use NVDA on Windows

NVDA does not, by default, read MathML content. To do so, you need to install MathPlayer 4 (a free application) on your computer. Once this application is installed, NVDA will read out all mathematical content. We strongly recommend using Google Chrome.

While understandably not ideal because of the extra step, does that help?

Hi @DThomasMSDE,

I do not have much experience with NVDA but I have used it a few times before.

According to https://math.sci.ccny.cuny.edu/page/accessibility-and-mathjax, I believe it might be necessary to right-click on the image that is generated and then change "Math Settings > Math Renderer" to "MathML".

After doing that and potentially refreshing the web browser, it should be possible to put the mouse cursor over the individual items in the equation and have them read.

I found that out by trial and error but the problem is that NVDA does not read fractions and superscripts. For example, it reads cube as 3 and squared as 2.
