Media Recorder and Flash

When attempting to record a media submission for assignments, I have students on Chromebooks who receive this message "Adobe Flash Player was blocked because it is out of date.  Update Plugin or Run this time"

Does the media recorder for assignment submission still require Flash?  I though Flash just reached its end of life.

I reached out to someone at Instructure who oversees the Documents Team, and she provided the following:

yes, we made that a non-issue quite a while ago

it depends on the browser being used

and if they still support flash

but canvas defaults to HTML 5"
