If I understand it correctly, Items banks that are used for the New Quiz engine are technically connected to your physical Canvas account instead of physical courses. This comes in handy because you can use your item banks in any course where you have the permission to create and edit a quiz using New Quizzes.
When you reset a courses content, resets pretty much everything at the course level and won't delete item banks since new quizzes uses an LTI/ External tool to retrieve those. Resetting a course's content will delete Question Banks for the old Classic Quiz Engine.
You do have the ability to delete individual item banks if you desire that outcome. HERE is a guide on how that works. Before you do that, keep in mind:
- Question groups that use a random number of item bank items are not available after the item bank is deleted.
- Question groups that use a random number of item bank items are not available after the item bank is deleted.
- Items added to a quiz individually are not removed from the quiz when the item bank is deleted.
