My course is using classic quizzes. When I add these quizzes to a module sometimes the text "(classic)" appears after the quiz name, and sometimes not.
Does anyone know why? Or how to remove the extra "classic" label? I'd rather not see it as I'm scrolling through the modules, and I don't want students to get confused by it. (It does appear in student view.)
Hi @allenka ...
The "classic" wording that is being appended to your quiz titles sounds strange to me. I cannot find anything in any recent release notes that would indicate this is a new feature of Canvas. I wonder if your school's Canvas administrator(s) included some custom code that is adding this text to the titles of your quizzes? Do you know if this is happening just for you and your courses? Is it happening for your colleagues who teach in Canvas, too? You might want to have a conversation with your school's Canvas admins to see if they are aware of anything like this.
Keep us posted here in the Community...thanks!
I just had a similar issue with the "(classic)" text being added to the quiz title automatically. It happened after a classic quiz was duplicated or replicated into a new quiz using the New Quizzes, with the same title.
Editing the old quiz did not work - "(classic)" is not included in the editable area for the quiz title. Deleting the new quiz completely did not work - "(classic)" still shows up in title of the old quiz even after the deletion of the new quiz.
What worked for me was to slightly change the quiz title (e.g. from "Quiz 1" to "Module 1 Quiz"), and that made the system remove the "(classic)" text from the quiz title automatically.
Hello @WenZhang1
I am sorry you have continued to see this happen with your quizzes. Thanks for detailing that you have noticed this happening when the quizzes are being migrated from Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. I ran a few tests in a course of mine and I haven't seen any title additions of "classic" added to either the New Quiz or the Classic quiz that was migrated here. As mentioned before, there doesn't appear to be any documentation indicating this is being added by the Canvas site directly. I would definitely suggest connecting with the admins at your school/institution to see if they can provide some insight and check if they have anything set up specifically that would add this type of labeling to the quiz names/titles.
Please let us know if you have more details or further questions!!
This is happening in my Canvas instance too. The quizzes themselves are just named "Quiz 5" and so on, from the Assignments or Quizzes tab. When I go to add them to a module, the "(classic)" gets appended at the end, only visible in the title of the module item. When you click on the quiz from the module, the title is simply "Quiz 5". This happens when the New Quizzes Feature Option is both disabled and enabled...
(classic) appended to every quiz name when adding to module
view from module
view from Quizzes
Is there any solution to this issue? It's still happening, and it means I have to edit every one for something being added by the system. I'd love to make it go away.
