Can you make the screen shots bigger? It is hard to see what you are referencing in the screen shots.

Will regular expressions be still available?

How do I activate this feature? It is part of the release notes for 4/16/2022 but when I go to creat a quiz it is still the old version of Fill in the Blank.

Is there a timeline for when everyday New Quiz users will be able to modify fill-in-the-blank questions using the rich content editor (questions on separate lines, fill-in-the-blank tables,...)? I've had 04-16-22 on my calendar ever since I learned about the update but I still can't fix all the science lab questions in my quizzes. I'm guessing it is in the Beta world and so unavailable to me....

I just found another link that says May 21st is the magic date when the rich content editor for some New Quizzes question formats will be released from Beta to regular Canvas users. (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Releases/Canvas-Release-Notes-2022-05-21/ta-p/520545#toc-h...)

I'm wondering if this might get delayed since New Quizzes haven't worked in beta since this feature reached beta.

I'd sure love to test this in beta. Too bad New Quizzes isn't working in beta. 😞

Does anyone know how to activate the Beta environment in my canvas course?

You cannot reach beta from within your course, but https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-access-the-Canvas-beta-environment-as-a... shows you how to access your institution's beta instance.

The fill in the blank space quizzes already migrated, which can´t be on separate lines, will be corrected automatically on 2022-05-21, or we will need to correct them. Thank you.

We found that existing fill in the blank questions do nit migrate, and duplicating the quiz does not update. We did find that going into the build area, and duplicating the fill in the blank questions one at a time will update them. Hopefully this helps others.

I have world language instructors who are struggling with using the backticks in the fill-in-the-blank as it rejects accent marks within the backticks [Please see the attached image(1)]. The workaround is to put the word in the backticks without the accent [Please see attached image (2)], but that is actually incorrect and allows students to choose the wrong answer when it is necessary to have the accent. To further correct this, the instructor must then choose the option to list correct answers, put in the word including the accent mark, then delete the answer without the accent mark [Please see Screen Shot]. This is disruptive to work flow despite correcting the problem. Any suggestions on how to improve/fix this? it wasn't a problem before the update. Thank you!

@MARISSASCHRADER this was brought to my attention this morning from a math teacher. Any special character (parentheses, math operators, etc) break the fill in the blank. I've given them a similar workaround, but rather than a similar version of the correct answer, I'm having teachers input nonsense text inside the backticks, something students would never enter as there response. Then, under Text match, they select 'specify correct answers' and input the correct answer as an additional choices, leaving the nonsense text as one of the correct responses.

Unfortunately, this impacts quizzes that had already been made so teachers have to go back and update quizzes so students can take them.

I am very happy to see the change in this question type, but I've found a problem.  If I try to put a backtick around an expression containing a parenthesis, square bracket, or brace, it doesn't recognize the expression as a fill-in-the-blank.  Unfortunately, I need students to be able to use these symbols.  Please fix this!

Hi there! This issue has been fixed. Thanks!

first, I love having the RCE in fill in the blank questions.  I can finally make my vocabulary quizzes the way I prefer.  But working with it today I came across a significant issue.

  • I make a table with the 2nd and 4th columns having the blank cell to be filled in. Looks great! see attached exhibit a.
  • Then I make a 2nd question in the same way.  Should not be a problem.  see attached exhibit b.
  • When I preview the quiz, all of the cells from however many questions I've built, they all end up in the first fill in the blank question.  Any subsequent questions are left without their blank cells.  see attached exhibit c.
  • Going back to the editor has all the cells of however many questions I've created all piled into the first question still.  see exhibit d.

If I separate the fill in the blank questions with other types of questions, then there seems to not be a problem--until the shuffled questions put one after the other and the problem resurfaces.  Any advice? or perhaps schedule a fix?

nevermind.. apparently this is a bug report and should go somewhere else.  where? i don't know.

further testing reveals it happens only with fill in the blank questions that have been duplicated. Those that have been created from scratch are not having this problem.

semester is in full swing, but this issue is still jumbling up the page. just a heads up in case anybody is watching.

I have been able to duplicate this as well. In addition the first question seems to show 2 fill in the blank areas once I duplicate it and the duplicate question has no boxes (build screen shot RTE and fill in the blank issues.png).  If I go back into build and remove the offending duplicate question then question one appears formatted as expected (build screen shot RTE and fill in the blank issues with duplicate question removed.png).

Hi there! The fix for this issue is currently in progress. Thanks!

Thanks for the update. Any chance you can link to the open known issue so we can all track it?

Hi

I am not able to regrade any of the fill in the blank questions that have been created with the the rich text editor and backticks. Please assist urgently on how one does this

@NaeemahModhien, I would recommend putting in a ticket at support@instructure.com, as the community space will not necessarily provide quick answers. Please share whatever response you receive from support though, as I am interested in knowing the solution to this issue.

Hi there! The fix is complete and should be included in the next deploy on Wednesday. Thanks!

Hi

I have tried to regrade the fill in the blank questions that allow rich text editor with the backtricks and I am still unable to regrade and enter new answers or change existing answers.

We were unable to deploy on that Wednesday but were able to subsequently.  Please let me know if you see the fix. Thanks!

@MPioRoda

Hi,

Thank you, although it didn't work the Wednesday. I was able to see the fix and was able to regrade that Friday 🙂. Glad to see it working

So glad that you added the RCE to Canvas New Quizzes.  I would still love to see the html editor though.

I am having an issue with the graded view for students after they have submitted a question and it is marked wrong.

The incorrect answers are not matching up to the corresponding question.  This happens whenever I have two fill in the blank questions in a row.

Here is a picture for reference.
