Deactivated user, Instructure
The major takeaways from this session were:
Phase Details:
Phase 0.5 -
Phase 1.0 -
Phase 2.0 -
Once Phase 2.0 is complete the old Grade Book will be discontinued most likely Summer of 2018.
And here it is:
If I missed anything or got it wrong, please let me know in the comments!!
Thanks for this!
I wasn't able to attend this session. Very helpful!! Thanks!!
I believe during the q&a (towards the end), it was mentioned that New Gradebook would no longer have the "treat ungraded as 0" option, which will probably eliminate a lot of confusion around what that option really does with the grades, passback to SIS, student view, etc.
Although it does cause confusion, it can be a useful feature for some faculty. But why worry about the future today.
Wow, good I read this comment. I actually highlight that feature to our professors as a useful tool- especially since our institution is implementing mid-semester grades for undergrad students.
You had me at "Grade Change History will be unlimited"
Had a quick chat with Christi at the end and she also confirmed 'muting by default' (or I think choosing to post grades manually or on fixed date) will likely be in later part of phase 1. Great news!
Thanks for this post; I really like how you formatted your post as well. Helps in pinpointing the important parts.
You mention multiple notes columns allowed - i can only have one in new gradebook i am testing - is this development for later?
Hey vrs07nl. What you're viewing here is someone sharing their notes from a session at the annual conference, InstructureCon.

vrs07nl, The multiple notes column was mentioned during the session but I cannot remember which "Phase" it was included in, or even if it was just mentioned that they will be doing it with no mention of timeline to be added.
The video from the session can be found here -
mentioned can have more than onenotes column - no mention of when
Will there be an alternative to faculty journal, or a more visible notes column that can also be viewed in speedgrader?
There was no mention of seeing the notes column in the SpeedGrader, but that would be a great feature request.
As for the faculty journal, we never seemed to get that activated at my institution and I don't recall hearing from the session any mention of it. The video is posted in case I missed something.
We haven't used the faculty journal either, but we are considering it, and I want more feedback on current use before pushing it out to 70 teachers! Maybe I will start a new thread.
Well, admin has made it clear that they don't want to pursue the faculty journal at this point, so I'm going to be like Elsa and let it go.
