Description
At the University of Birmingham, UK, we have partnered with Canvas as our VLE provision since 2013. As our usage has evolved it has become the central platform for our ecosystem, with additional tools incorporated for assessment in STEM, lecture capture, search, and collaboration. Focus groups with students and staff, in conjunction with Instructure representatives indicate that they appreciate the relative intuitiveness and responsiveness of the platform. However, they find it disjointed between courses that they, as a student, are registered on simultaneously but that are led and created on Canvas by different academic teams. At Birmingham, we are creating an ‘overview’ that enables students to see their learning across their programme synoptically including a feedback portfolio. It will sit alongside the Gradebook, using GAI to summarise all the feedback on all their work to date. We are collaborating with Canvas to create a prototype, which will be showcased.
