My school district is requiring us to issue letter grades based on course outcomes. I have my summatives linked to the course outcomes in Canvas, but the letter grades seem to still be based on their formative work that's being recorded in the traditional gradebook averaged together using straight points with the summative work that gets the 0-4 score on the rubrics tied to course outcomes. The Learning Mastery Gradebook seems to just give a list of which things they do and do not have 3s on yet rather than their grade.
How do I get it to give me the letter grade in the district course grading scheme based on the work tied to outcomes as the letter grade it displays for teachers, students, and parents?
Specifics of our district-mandated grading scheme:
Here's what we've got set up in Canvas so far:
However, letter grades are still calculating based on all assignments rather than just the ones linked to the outcomes, and are calculating based on overall points in the class rather than by averaging the course outcome grades.
What setting am I missing?
Morning,
I sadly am not sure Canvas is able to use Outcomes to actually provide/give students grades in Canvas. Outcomes is a totally separate aspect of Canvas that from our experiences is half-baked and is missing a lot of functionality (this being one of them). You can set up the rubrics to allow the outcomes to be used to grade the assignments, and therefore have that grade impact the course grade, but I am not aware of a way to directly have outcomes be used for a course grade.
