I want to include a short quiz as part of an assignment. How do I do that, and does the number of points earned show up as an Assignment grade?

Hi @JillMacoska,

I might be misunderstanding your question (I apologize in advance if I am) but it is not possible to have a quiz (a type of Canvas content) be a part of an assignment (both another type of Canvas content for collecting student work but also any type of graded "work" in a course).

What you can do is a series of different options for a course design/organization prospective:

  1. create a module and name it for the entire assignment ( How do I add a module? - Instructure Community - 1151 )
  2. create an assignment ( How do I create an assignment? - Instructure Community - 740 )
  3. create a quiz
  4. create an assignment ( How do I create an assignment? - Instructure Community - 740 )
  5. add the assignment(s) and quiz to the module and make sure they are in the correct/desired order
  6. add a requirement to the module so that everything is completed in order before continuing
    1. How do I add requirements to a module? - Instructure Community - 1131
    2. depending on the layout of the course, you might also need to use prerequisites for the next module ( How do I add prerequisites to a module? - Instructure Community - 1123 )
  7. publish the module
    1. How do I publish or unpublish a module as an instructor? - Instructure Community - 571
    2. make sure that the individual items into the module are also published or students will not be able to access them

I mentioned "create an assignment" twice because you said "part of an assignment" so I am not sure how many parts there are to it

With this type of setup, you will have organized the module so that students complete everything for the assignment and in the order than you want them to.

If I have misunderstood your question, can you please provide us with more information so that we can help you.
