Hi folks, it looks like Scott the Magnificent has already created us a CanvasHacks public classroom to play in, and enrolled us as teachers.

Any thoughts on structure? I have a similar course that is mostly complete that I am preparing for my faculty that I could upload to provide a bit of structure. It is intended for non-coders, and has the following module structure:

• About HTML and the HTML Editor - DO NOT FEAR THE CODE!
• Beginning Users
• Intermediate users
• Advanced users
• Sharing (sharing has a discussion and links to external resoursces

However, I am not a pushy sort, so whatever anybody else wants, I am more than happy to go along with. I can always upload stuff a piece at a time and fit it where I can.

My "lessons" are all one page, and include:

• A brief description
• The code snippet
• Anatomy of the code snippet where I identify those components that are easy to modify by novices like myself
• Instructions for use
• Troubleshooting, and
• Sometimes some obvious variations based on changes to parts of the code (colors, sizes, positions etc. - the minor stuff)

Oh yah, and I also have a hokey Home page, because that's just the kind of guy I am:)

Great idea, Kelley.

I created a course shell in resources.instructure.com.  It looks like well over 60 people have already requested either student or teacher level access.  Those of you with teacher level access, feel free to invite your friends.  Anyone else interested, please comment to that effect.   @kmeeusen ​ and the super helpful  @Ron_Bowman ​ have been great about going in and inviting folks.

Ah yes, but mostly true! I got spammed to death once I registered for InstCon. Participants in the Community need their privacy protected to the extent possible in a Jive Community. I don't know if vendors are permitted here, but would hate to find out the hard way. Vendors fill a much needed niche for Canvas users, but they still have a product to sell, and are fully engaged in sales tactics which include emails to any potential customer they can identify.

You bring up an important point, Kelley.  Canvas is a learning platform, designed to make it relatively easy to plug-in tools provided by 3rd parties, some of which charge for their services and products.  Also, there are vendors that, while not connected directly to LMS, create content that is loaded into the system - a closely related market space.

Do we want anyone to get spammed by us, by Canvas, by the community platform or by vendors?  Absolutely not.  On the other hand, some of those 3rd parties are our alliance partners.  We had a lot of conversation about how best to facilitate communication via our partners and community members in a way that hopefully nobody will get spammed or feel like they are being stalked. 

The end result is that we created a Partnerships space that will hopefully be like a vendors exhibit hall at a conference.  If you choose to enter the hall and talk to the vendors, you are free to do so.  But, those same vendors shouldn't be cruising the hallways of the conference, way laying you on your way to the next session or yummy intermission snack.  Oftentimes vendors will contact the community team, alerting us to discussion activity related the service or product they provide.  You might from time to time see a comment from one of us to the effect "I think the functionality you are looking for can be found in (vendor X)'s product.  For more info, consider visiting..."

Hopefully we have struck the right balance here but if not, please let us know.

I absolutely agree, and I love recommendations for vendors with a product that can meet our needs. I see those references frequently in the Community. This is a good thing. The vendor partners themselves have been unusually respectful and helpful.

I too do my little part to limit Spam, by not exposing Community member emails.

I knew that.  I was just kidding around since Kona is so active in the community and seems to know it all, that you could just go straight to a source.  Have fun looking around there is a lot of interesting hacks that can be done with html.

Yes, Kona is very active in the community and know a LOT of things. She and I help each other out a lot (yes, sometimes she even asks ME how to do something). However, I also like to be proactive and find new stuff to learn on my own. I have used some basic HTML in the past, and wanted to see what the Canvashacks course had to offer.
