Y’all ready for a partay? I am! In fact, I’m packing my bags (yes, red nose and floppy shoes included) in prep for InstructureCarn in Keystone, CO. I was going to ask my buddy Josh (Mr. Coates to you, btw) if he’d share an Uber with me, but then I ‘bumped’ into Beth from #stepsforbeth. Turns out she’s going this year!
I missed catching up with her last year. For those who don’t know, days before her flight to InstructureCon 2017, she was hit with a super rare (1%) spinal stroke and was paralyzed from the waist down. Although we didn’t connect, I (along with many of my Canvas friends) followed her every step in her heroic journey back to health.
And just recently, she announced:
“Y'all....I got approval!!! Well 2 out of 4 of my medical team and my boss. With restrictions (i.e. wheelchair and must travel with someone who can assist me...family/friends are going to have to draw straws for this one).”
Of course, this made my giant panda heart happy. I first met <Beth> when she joined the Canvas Community in June of 2015. She’s a sharer (like me) and posts all sorts of goodies in the Community. We connected at InstructureCon 2015. I was just chillaxin’ by the tents, feeling all “kumbayawesome,” when (click!) she took this beautiful picture (Snapchat wasn’t really a thing back then).
We’ve been BFFs ever since.
But, I digress.
In hopes to re-create another memorable photo op with Beth, I will track my #stepsforbeth en route to Instructurecon 2018 (that’s 456.69 miles of dedication!). I’m going to use my paws (and since I have 4 of them, my steps will add up quickly. Sorry, humans) to track each step!
Will you join me?
This year I’ll start tracking my steps in stridekick and I can invite 100 of my Canvas friends to join me, virtually.
Here are the deets:
Can I just say, “I love this community!” (Okay, now I’m going to start crying). But seriously, it’s not just about being Canvas users, but offering up your experiences that end up bringing out your passions, your humanity, and your deep friendships.
See you ‘clowns’ in Keystone!
Celebrating #stepsforbeth remotely from Naples, Florida @BethCrook !
MUCH LOVE to both of you stefaniesanders and awilliams!!!

Unmeasurable & Unforgettable inspiration for us all!
I just printed this post of yours and taped it next to my computer. I'm still speechless, but I must thank you, @Renee_Carney and everyone else for making this happen. There will be another post, but alas, it's Monday morning and I have a pile on my desk. Something about work...whatever that is.

He shot these photos and edited them on his own time! Thank you, Jim!
I'm late to the group, but I signed up @Renee_Carney . My email address is, wjameswolf@gmail.com. Thanks.
I love that you want to participate. This journey ended on the 31st! We're all walked out for now! Do hang out in Stridekick though, I've found it a great app to do friendly office challenges with (10 people challenges are free)!
@Renee_Carney "We're all walked out for now!" -- speak for yourself, Miss Renee!! Now that I'm back down at sea level and have oxygen passing through my lungs again, I'm walking soooo much better. Well, except that my mind is running wild and I keep forgetting to tell myself to actually lift my right foot to step and I stumble a bit. LOL And Saturday morning's therapist had zero sympathy for my late night arrival into BWI and worked me hard. Seriously though, each and every one of you deserve to take the week off from walking. Just scoot around in your office chairs. Next week, back up you go...
@wwolf I bet if you get started this week, you'll blow everyone away as they recover!
Yes, poor choice of words on my part! I took it easy Saturday and Sunday (only 10k steps) but Monday I started back up in the 15k range!!! Still stepping for you, just not the joint virtual journey to track our community of efforts!
"only 10k steps"
Yeah, I was in full-on anti-step mode on Saturday (I think I ended up with 6000, and only because I had to do some grocery shopping). But then I saw @BethCrook 's tweet about PT, and had that same "Hey, there's no quitting in #stepsforbeth!" epiphany. Also, @kschneider25 told me I needed to get my butt back in gear #StillSteppingForBeth
OMG, @tdelillo , tell me about it!
I was totally wiped Saturday, and concluded that I had finished Thursday and Friday on will power only.
By the way, it was so awesome to finally meet you in person this year!
Kelley
Same! This was the year when I finally caught up with a LOT of my Canvas buddies I had somehow had missed in years past. I'm not saying I did more networking than session-going, but I'm not NOT saying that
I typically have done way more networking these last three years, and it has paid off in spades. This year, I got all sorts of great tips to support a very major project we are engaged in.
It is my dream to meet you guys in person.
@Bobby2 ,
Attending InstructureCon is a great way to meet many of the folks that you follow in the community. I met loads of people this year and primarily attend InstructureCon for the networking opportunities and like @kmeeusen , have found many great solutions and suggestions to help solve many of our current issues. If you can do it, I would highly recommend that you look at attending next year's event!
orwinr I can only dream. AND pester the powers that be.
Be great to meet you too!
It was great to meet you in person, Randy. Maybe next year you and Bobby will share a plane trip over together.
I'm with you ... I barely moved on Saturday!! I was in full recovery mode and high on oxygen!!
Just a little recap & reflection! https://community.canvaslms.com/community/instcon/instructurecon-2018/blog/2018/08/02/stepsforbeth-a...
What's next? Let's keep stepping
