How do I align by object?
After working with your Instructure representative to import and establish your learning objects, you can align by object. To align by object, you first select a learning object and then align it to predicted standards.
Notes:
- Before beginning, you must log in to the Standards Alignment App. If you have access to multiple partner accounts, you must also select an account.
- You can also align learning objects by first selecting a standard and then aligning objects to it. Learn more about aligning by standard.
Open Align by Object
In the Navigation Menu, click the Align by Object link [1]. Alternatively, you can click the dashboard Start with Objects button [2].
Find Learning Objects
In the Learning Objects window, you can search for objects. Enter words or a partial learning object ID into the Search field. For example, to search for objects whose titles involve the word central or the word message, enter central message in the Search field.
To search using a wildcard, enter an asterisk at the beginning and/or end of a search phrase. For example, to search for objects involving the phrase central message somewhere in the title, enter *central message* in the Search field.
To search using a complete ID or title, surround the complete ID or title in quotes. For example:
- To search for a learning object whose complete ID is 102234, enter "102234" in the Search field.
- To search for a learning object whose complete title is Learning about the central message of the passage, enter "Learning about the central message of the passage" in the Search field.
Load or Filter Learning Objects
Alternatively, you can load a collection of learning objects by clicking the Load Collection button [1].
You can also filter the learning objects according to metadata by clicking the Filter button [2].
Select Objects
After searching, loading, or filtering objects, you can view the number of learning objects found [1]. You can also view the list of learning objects [2].
View Object Properties
To view object properties, click the Expand/Collapse icon [1]. Object details display [2].
To copy the object ID, you can click the Copy icon [3].
Select Object
To align a learning object to a standard, click its Align button.
View Predicted Standards
When you select a learning object, it displays a Selected label [1], and the Standards tab displays [2].
On the Standards tab, the Predictions sub-tab displays a list of all standards you may want to align to the selected object [3]. The sub-tab also displays the number of predictions discovered [4].
To load a collection of standards, click the Load Collection button [5].
If no predictions are listed or to select standards directly, click the Search Standards button [6]. Learn more about searching for standards.
Note: Crosswalks determine which standards display in the Predictions list. To manage the predictions list, you can filter the standards or manage crosswalks.
Accept or Reject Predictions
To align to an individual standard in the predictions list, click the standard's Accept icon [1]. Alternatively, you can align to all standards in the list. To align to all predicted standards, click the Align All button [2].
To reject a standard for alignment, click the standard's Reject icon [3].
Note: If you have enabled alignment tags, you can align with tags.
View and Manage Aligned Standards
To view all standards to which the object is aligned, click the Aligned tab [1]. The Aligned tab also displays the total number of alignments [2].
A New label displays above recently added alignments [3].
To un-align to a standard, click the Align icon [4]. The standard moves to the Predictions list.
To reject a standard for alignment, click the Reject icon [5]. The standard moves to the Rejected list.
Note: The New label on recent alignments disappears after you view the Aligned tab, or if you navigate away from the Standards tab.
Align Derivative Standards
If an object is aligned to a national standard, you can align to its predicted derivative standards.
On the Aligned tab, click the national standard's Copy icon [1]. Then, to align to all derivative standards (both similar and identical), select the Copy to align all derivatives option [2]. To align only to derivative standards that are identical to the national standard, click the Copy to align exact derivatives option [3]. Derivative standards move from the Predictions tab to the Aligned tab.
You can learn more about aligning to predicted derivative standards.
View and Manage Rejected Standards
To view all rejected standards, click the Rejected tab [1]. The Rejected tab displays the number of rejected standards [2].
A New label displays above recently rejected alignments [3].
To align a learning object to the standard, click the Align icon [4]. The standard moves to Aligned tab.
To remove a standard from the rejected list, click the Rejected icon [5]. The standard moves to the Predictions tab.
Note: The New label on newly rejected alignments disappears after you view the Rejected tab, or if you navigate away from the Standards tab.
Reject Derivative Standards
If an a national standard is rejected, you can reject its predicted derivative standards.
On the Rejected tab, click the national standard's Copy icon [1]. Then, to reject all derivative standards (both similar and identical), select the Copy to reject all derivatives option [2]. To reject only to derivative standards that are identical to the national standard, click the Copy to reject exact derivatives option [3]. Derivative standards move from the Predictions tab to the Rejected tab.
You can learn more about rejecting derivative standards.
