[2021-12-22 UPDATE: Migration is available in the beta environment]

In late December, “bulk” migration to New Quizzes will be available. We’ve conferred with the community about how multiple quizzes might migrate. When using one of those options, you may choose to have the quizzes and banks migrate to New Quizzes.

This functionality is being released to the Beta environment only, because we’ve made a conscious decision not to release it to Production yet.

The new RCE will be integrated to New Quizzes until Phase 2 of Classic Quizzes sunsetting timeline. It will be the same RCE and same experience which you use across Canvas.

If you’ve been wondering what we’re considering for content migration to support the Sunsetting Classic Quizzes Timeline, look no further! As with all of our new features, we need to ensure we understand user needs and the impact we would have along the way. That’s where your feedback here plays a vital role.

Instructure is proud of our partnerships and ability to work with other third party vendors so that you have access to a wide variety of tools. New Quizzes strives for that same standard — however, in its current state, the only Instructure supported third party proctoring tool is Respondus Lockdown Browser. Of course, we have plans to expand third party usage. This post outlines the current state, why we support what we do now, and what to expect in the not too distant future.

Printing options will be available in New Quizzes soon. We’re pretty clear on teacher needs and use cases thanks to the extensive feedback the community has provided. (We’re really focusing on high impact changes now!!) Also, although it sounds like it isn’t as critical, we're hearing that a simplified workflow for students to print might be desirable -- assuming teachers have full control of such a tool’s availability.

I’m interested to hear your thoughts regarding the value of or concerns with adding teacher settings to allow students to print.

I know everyone is keen to hear what is coming next for Item Banks. We think we’re onto something good, but are still refining the user interaction experience.

New improvements to Item Banks will make it possible for Admins to share Item Banks at the Account to disseminate down for courses to assess against using the same set of items. Additionally, anyone with permission will be able to collaborate easily by associating an Item Bank with courses instead of only the user. Admins will be able to exert their super-powers by accessing any Item Bank, even those not explicitly shared, so that content cannot be lost.

2021-04-08 Update: We've enabled this change to beta instances per the 2021-04-14 Canvas Deploy Notes to expose those who are interested with the opportunity to play and see how this would work.  Our current plan is to deploy the change end of April or early May.  Please continue to add your comments below.

2021-04-17 Update: Will be addressed as a bug fix and released in the 2021-04-28 Canvas Deploy.

2021-04-28 Update: Confirming released in the 2021-04-28 Canvas Deploy

In March we made a change in New Quizzes, so that Assignment Edit page is always the first page. Previous behavior was that the Assignment Edit page was the first page only on initial New Quiz creation.

I’m looking for your help to evaluate those trade offs between early communication and immediately solving user pain.

If you use either question banks or item banks, we’d love to show early design ideas to get your impressions. For this round, meetings will be scheduled through the second week of April 2021. Each meeting would be approximately 45 minutes.

[....]

For those of you too busy for a call, I’m hoping you can weigh in with your preference with regard to release timing. Is it better to provide Item Banks at the Account and Course level as soon as possible, or hold an additional couple of weeks to include Item Bank searching?

[As of July 2021, please post questions about New Quizzes in the New Quizzes user forum. For questions about the Classic Quizzes Timeline, please see Classic Quiz Sunset Timeline (Subscribe!)]

This year Quizzes will be taking a two pronged focus with our development. One focus will be on content migration. The second focus is continued enhancement of the New Quizzes experience. The two will occur concurrently to ensure that you are seeing continual improvement if you are currently using New Quizzes...

TL:DR

New features coming to Beta on February 22nd will enable better workflow for Admins Using Modules to create New Quizzes.

Problems identified through our discovery conversations with Admins and Educators:

  1. Can’t create a New Quiz from Modules - addressed
  2. Quizzes co-mingled with Assignments - addressed
  3. Navigation in Canvas eco-system causes confusion and needs consistency - partially addressed

[UPDATE 18-DEC: Followup post added to New Quizzes User Group; please see Priority Gathering for the New Quizzes Roadmap]

As we’re all getting ready to firmly shut the door on 2020, we have a prime opportunity to look forward to all of the changes 2021 will bring.

As previously mentioned in the user group, due to the educational changes from Covid-19, the July 2021 enforcement date for New Quizzes has been updated to summer {July} 2022

By the start of 2021, we will share the quizzes plan for 2021 and beyond, which focuses heavily on reducing barriers for using New Quizzes. We have several projects we are exploring in the New Quizzes User Group and invite you to get involved. Your feedback will help determine details and inform the future roadmap New Quizzes.

Instructure wants to make the interaction between Modules and New Quizzes fully integrated and more intuitive. Instructors will be able to add existing new quizzes and create new quiz placeholders from the Modules page.

We need you!

As we don’t want to assume we know everything about your workflow and processes, we would like to meet with you. In an individual meeting, we would like you to talk through how you use Modules and Quizzes together. We would show some possible designs and ask for your honest feedback.

Meetings will be scheduled through the third week of December 2020, first come first serve. Each meeting would be approximately half an hour.
