How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?

You can get help with Canvas by using the Help menu. Depending on your user role, the Help menu generates a list of resources to help you with Canvas. Canvas displays links according to roles in all enrollments; for instance, if you are enrolled as a student, but have at least one course with an instructor-based role, the Help menu will show you links available to students and instructors.

This lesson outlines the default help links that may be included in the Help menu for your institution.

Note: Depending on your institution, the Help menu may not be available.

The Report a Problem link helps users report problems in Canvas.

You may find a faster response to your question by searching the Canvas Guides. But if you can't find an answer, you can submit a ticket and get support help.

In the subject field [1], create a subject for your ticket.

In the description field [2], describe the problem you are experiencing in Canvas. Please be as detailed as possible to help troubleshoot the problem. If you submit tickets frequently, you may prefer to use a screencasting program to create an online link to an image or create a video walkthrough. However, if you're not comfortable using online links, you can submit attachments later if necessary; once you submit the ticket, you'll receive an email from the support team. You can reply to the email with any attachment as needed.

In the drop-down menu [3], select the statement that best describes how the problem is affecting you:

  • Just a casual question, comment, idea, suggestion
  • I need some help but it's not urgent
  • Something's broken but I can work around it for now
  • I can't get things done until I hear back from you
  • EXTREMELY CRITICAL EMERGENCY

When you're done, click the Submit Ticket button [4].

Depending on your institution's support schedule, you'll receive a reply as soon as possible.

Hi I keep getting this error message: an error occurred while saving the appointment group. I followed all the directions.. help?

I created a shell with a colleague for a class we will teach together. We will both lead the classes via Zoom. On the shell, the meeting hyperlinks show for the entire semester. However, when I imported the class to the Canvas page for this semester, the Zoom meetings did not merge. My new class begins on Monday but students do not see hyperlinks to the Zoom meetings. How do I add the hyperlinks for the meetings?

@tud26596 I'm not sure of the steps you took to 'import' your course?  Did you copy it forward from a previous semester?  If that is the case it makes sense that live sessions would not move to the next semester.  Is Zoom in Canvas - Canvas Community a helpful resource for you in this process?

How do I resync a class through CANVAS

Thanks for posting your question! I'm not sure what you're trying to sync. Could you provide some clarification? If your course is a blueprint course, you can learn about syncing course content in this Canvas guide. If you're trying to sync your students' grades in Canvas with your school's SIS, you may need to reach out to your school's Canvas admin for help.

Hi there, my Canvas doesn't show any of the classes my two BSD students are enrolled in (11th and 8th grader). I have used Canvas frequently in the past and this is the first time there is zero content available. In addition, I do not have any of the drop down options to ask for help/assistance in resolving this issue, so I'm hoping you can help me here.

I'm sorry that you aren't able to view the Canvas content for your students and also that your district seems to have disabled to Help options for Canvas. Unfortunately, reporting the problem is the best way to understand what might be happening here. Does the school provide any contact information for tech/IT support for Canvas users?
