How do I use the Dashboard as an instructor?

The Dashboard is the first thing you will see when you log into Canvas. The Dashboard helps you see what is happening in all your current courses.

You can return to your User Dashboard at any time by clicking the Dashboard link in Global Navigation.

Note: If your institution has enabled the Course Setup Tutorial, the Dashboard is responsive to the full width of the browser.

Open Dashboard

Open Dashboard

In Global Navigation, click the Dashboard link.

View Dashboard

The Dashboard is your landing page in Canvas. Depending on your institution, your Dashboard may default to one of two views: Card View or Recent Activity View.

  • Card View: displays course cards for quick access to all your favorite courses (the same courses display in the Courses link from the Global Navigation Menu)
  • Recent Activity View: displays all recent activity for all courses

View Global Announcement

View Global Announcement

The Dashboard may also include global announcements, which are announcements created by your institution. To remove the announcement from your dashboard, click the Remove icon.

Change Dashboard View

To change your Dashboard view, click the Options menu and select your preferred viewing option.

Comments

Our district just purchases Cavas.  We are working through the tutorial but I have a question.  Are there any teachers out there already using Cavas that teach special education in an Accommodated Curriculum setting?  If so how does this work with your students that can not read or have a hard time with fine motor skills?

very good!!

@SKT,

Welcome to the Canvas Community! Comments below the Canvas guides are periodically cleaned up. For better visibility, I'd recommend posting your question in the Accessibility community group.

I love colors. so to be able to change colors for each course and add images to each course, will help visual learners find their course easily. Love it!
