Community Login Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience issues logging in to the Instructure Community, you can try several troubleshooting steps to log in.

You must log in to Canvas or Mastery Connect first before you try to log in to the Instructure Community.

If you've attempted to log in to Canvas and then the Instructure Community without success, clear your browser's cache and cookies and try the first step again.

Log in to Canvas or Mastery Connect First

Most issues users encounter while logging into the Instructure Community are caused by trying to log into the Instructure Community site before logging into either a Canvas account or Mastery Connect account.

Always make sure you are signed in to a Canvas or Mastery Connect account first before trying to sign in to the Instructure Community.

To log in to your Canvas account, access your Canvas instance by going to the Canvas site for your school or institution.

The URL should follow the format of “myschool.canvaslms.com” or “mycompany.instructure.com”. You may also use the Canvas Free-for-Teachers instance at canvas.instructure.com. If you are unsure which ULR to use, please reference the Where do I find my institution's URL to access Canvas? guide. Be sure to save your Canvas URL for future reference.

Once you are logged into Canvas, you can access the Instructure Community at https://community.instructure.com.

Click the Sign In button in the top right corner of the page.

Click the Log in with Canvas button or Log in with Mastery Connect.

If you log in with multiple Canvas accounts, you may be prompted to select a Canvas instance from the list. Be sure to select the instance associated with your Community account. If you select a different instance, you may be prompted to create a new Community account.

Login Loop

You may encounter a “login loop” when trying to log into the Instructure Community. This occurs when you try to log in and are prompted to either log in to your Canvas Account or sign up for a free Canvas account. After you try to log in or create an account, you are presented with this option over and over.

The "login loop" generally occurs when you try to log in to the Instructure Community before logging into Canvas first.

Clear Cache and Cookies

Clear your cache and cookies for the Instructure Community site. You can clear cache and cookies for your browser using the instructions linked below:

Clear Cookies in Firefox

After you have cleared cache and cookies, close all of your browser windows.

Reopen your browser.

Log In to Canvas

Follow the previous steps to log in to your Canvas account.

Once you are logged in to your Canvas account, try logging into the Instructure Community again.

If you are still unable to log in or continue experiencing the login loop, restart your computer and try the above steps again.
