How do I import artifacts to a collection and create a sample set?
Artifacts are sample work, typically course work submitted by students, that can be used to measure the effectiveness of a program. Artifacts are the materials which reviewers will be evaluating for the program assessment. Artifacts can be imported from Portfolium Course Assessment courses, uploaded from a device, or imported from a Learning Management System.
After importing artifacts you can create sample sets, which allows for assessment of a subset of the total number of artifacts uploaded to the collection.
Open Assessment
In the Toolbar, click the Assessment icon.
Open Program Assessments
In the Assessment Activities sidebar, click the Program Assessment link.
Open Collection
Click the collection name.
Add Artifacts
You can see available artifact import options in the Add Artifacts menu. Click the Add Artifacts menu [1] and then select an import option [2].
Import Artifacts from Course Assignment
You can import artifacts from Portfolium Course Assessment courses. Select a course from the Course drop-down menu [1] and then select an assignment [2]. If you would like to automatically add future submissions to the collection, click the Add future submissions to this collection toggle [3].
When you have finalized your settings, click the Add Artifacts button [4].
Note: When student submissions are imported from Canvas for a program assessment, the student will always be listed as Unknown.
Upload Artifacts
You can also upload artifacts from your device. In the File Upload window, drag and drop files or select the files in your computer's Finder.
Your selected files will display in the upload window. To remove a file, click the Remove file link [1]. When you are ready to upload the artifacts, click the Import Artifacts button [2].
View Import Status
A banner will display indicating the file import is in progress. Depending on the size of the files the import may take some time.
View Uploaded Artifacts
View the uploaded artifacts.
Create Sample Set
A sample set allows you to assess a subset of the total artifacts that were imported into your collection. Click the Sample Set tab [1] and then click the Create Sample Set button [2].
Define Sample Set Strategy
In the Sample Set strategy window, you can select an option to determine the size of the sample set. Available strategies include:
- Suggested: This strategy uses a statistical formula to find the minimum sample size for a statistically relevant sample set. This model uses a 5% margin of error, a 95% confidence level, and a 50% response distribution.
- Percentage: This strategy allows you to set a percentage value to create the sample set. The sample set will be created as the supplied percentage of the overal number of artifacts within the collection. You can enter the percentage in the Sample Size field.
- Absolute: This strategy allows you to provide an absolute value (number) and the sample set will be created as the supplied value of the overall number of artifacts within the collection. You can enter the value in the Sample Size field.
To select a strategy, click the radio button next to the strategy name [1], enter a value in the sample size field [2] (if needed), and click the Create Sample Set button [3].
