How do I restrict the viewing of quantitative data in an account?

When selected, this setting limits the view of new courses' quantitative (numeric) grading data. Students and observers only see qualitative data, which includes letter grades and comments.

Points are converted to a letter grade and points possible are hidden. All other grading information is visible.

Notes:

  • Admins can enable and choose to lock the setting for sub-accounts and courses. If unlocked, instructors can choose to enable in Course Settings. If locked, instructors cannot disable the setting.
  • If the account or course does not have a custom grading scheme, the Default Canvas Grading Scheme is used.
  • This setting does not change anything for existing courses. The quantitative data restriction checkbox is for all new courses created in the account after the setting is enabled.
  • When the setting is enabled, Admins, Instructors, and TAs can still see quantitative data.

By default, the Restrict view of quantitative data checkbox is not selected, meaning students an observers can view numeric data as well as letter grades and comments.

To retain this default for the entire institution, do not select the checkbox.

Note: The quantitative data restriction checkbox is for all new courses created in the account after the setting is enabled.
