How do I edit an item through an item bank in Mastery Connect?

In Mastery Connect, you can edit an item that you create in an item bank before the item has been published. Teachers can edit items they create in their personal item banks. Administrators can edit items they create in the district item bank.

Note: If you create an item from within an assessment, you must edit the item from within the assessment.

Open Items

In the Global Navigation menu, click the Items link.

Note: If you create an item from within an assessment, you must edit the item from within the assessment.

Select Item Bank

To open filter options, click the Filter button [1]. In the Item Bank drop-down menu[2], pick the bank you want to display items from.

Note: If you are an admin, you can click the district item bank link.

View Item Titles

View the list of items in the item bank [1]. To change the sort order, you can click the Sort By drop-down menu [2], and select an option.

You can sort items by Alpha A–Z or Z–A, Created Oldest First or Newest First, Published Oldest First or Newest First, and Passage Title A–Z or Z–A.

Locate Item

To locate an item to edit, you can use the search and filtering options.

To search by item title, enter text in the Search Items field [1].

To filter the item list, click Filter [2] and select the filter. Here are the available filters.

  • Item Bank  
  • Subject  
  • Core  
  • Class  
  • Standard  
  • Item Type
  • Passages (All, Items without passages, Items with passages)
  • Difficulty (Low, Medium, High)
  • DOK (1, 2, 3, 4)
  • Blooms (Create, Evaluate, Analyze, Apply, Understand, Remember)
  • Language (All, English, Spanish)
  • My Usage (All items, Items previously used by me, Items never used by me)
  • Reserved (All, Reserved, Unreserved)
  • Other Features (Gradecam, Printable, Multipart)

Edit Item

To edit an item, under Actions, click the pencil icon (edit) [1] to open the Item Editor or click the Item Name [2] to open the Item Preview window, then click the pencil icon (edit) to open the Item Editor.

Edit Item Details

To edit an item in the Item Editor, click the settings icon.

In Settings [1], edit or update the following settings as needed: Name, Question Type, Destination Bank, Subject, Core, Class, and Standard.

There is also an option to Add Another Alignment.

You can edit the following options in Additional Settings: Difficulty, DOK, Blooms, and Language.

Click the Save button [2].

Edit Item Content

In the Item Editor, update the Compose question field [1]. Enable or disable Copy, Cut, and/or Paste options [2]. Set the Word limit and choose its visibility [3].

Click the More options drop-down menu [4] to access scoring layout, extras, and custom metadata.

Scoring Layout [5] includes the following options:

  • Special characters
  • Spellcheck and text correction
  • Min height and Max height (px)
  • Placeholder
  • Font size

Scoring Extras [6] includes the following options:

  • Acknowledgements
  • Distractor rationale
  • Stimulus (review only)
  • Instructor stimulus
  • Contains math

Custom Metadata [7] includes the following options:

  • Rubric
  • Rubric Total Points

Save Content Changes

To save the item as a draft and keep editing enabled, click the Save As Draft button [1]. When you save an item as a draft, it can be edited and deleted in your personal item bank and by admins in the district teacher item bank.

To disable editing and share the item with teachers in your district, click the Publish button [2]. When you publish an item, it displays in the district teacher item bank and is available to all users in your district. You can delete the item from your personal item bank, and admins can delete the item from the district teacher item bank.
