How do I enable the text-to-speech tool for individual students?

Find your school's Canvas URL

To find your school or institution's Canvas URL, begin typing the name of your school/institution. Results will appear after you type at least 3 characters. For best results be as specific as possible. If you can't find your school, try using any part of your school's name or searching for your school district or state. You may also need to search for the school using the acronym or full name, for example "USU" and "Utah State University".

How do I enable the text-to-speech tool for individual students?

You can enable and customize the text-to-speech accessibility tool in Enhanced Accommodation (EA) assessments for individual students. You can also enable and customize this tool at the tracker level.

Note: The text-to-speech tool must be activated in your district before users can enable it for individual students. If you would like to enable the text-to-speech tool, please have your school or district administrator contact your Regional Education Consultant.

Open Tracker

In the Global Navigation Menu, click the Trackers link [1]. In the Trackers page, click a tracker link [2].

Open Student Editor

Open Student Editor

Hover over a name in the Students list [1]. To open the Edit Student window, click the Edit link [2].

Enable Text-to-Speech Options

Select Text-to-Speech Option

In the Accommodations list, click the Enable Text-to-speech toggle [1].

By default, all text-to-speech accommodations options are selected. Uncheck the boxes next to the selections you want to remove [2].

To save the settings for the student, click the Save button [4].

Note: Customizing the text-to-speech tool applies the settings across all selected assessment types for the student.
