How do I filter items from an item bank within an assessment?

When you create an item-based assessment, you can add items from item banks. The item filters allow you to filter by standard, item bank, item type, passages, difficulty level, Depth of Knowledge value, Bloom's Taxonomy, and language.

You can also filter items based on whether they are compatible with Gradecam, printable, or multipart.

Open Assessment Editor

Enter and save assessment details for an item-based assessment for one of the following assessment types:

After you save the assessment details, the Assessment Editor displays.

In the Assessment Editor, you can view assessment details [1], manage assessment items in the Item Organizer [2], control the assessment scoring [3], and manage settings [4].

Notes:

  • All changes you make in the Assessment Editor are saved automatically.
  • To exit the Assessment Editor at any time, click the Exit buton [5].

Add Items from Item Bank

To add items to the assessment click the Add Item button [1]. To add an item from an item bank, click the Add from Item Bank link [2]. To create a new item, click the Author New Item link [3].

Alternatively, you can click the Add icon in the Item Organizer [4].

In the Add items from Item Banks window, click the Filter button.

Select Filters

To filter the list of items, use the options in the Filter tray [1]. You can filter items based on standard, item bank, item type, whether items have passages, difficulty level, DOK, Blooms, language, reserved status, Gradecam compatibility, printability, and whether the item is multipart.

The current standard filter displays [2].

To expand a filter group, click the group's Expand icon [3].

You can view the number of items found by the current filter [4].

Once selected, filters are saved even if you exit the Filter window, close the assessment or end your user session. To clear the filters, click the Reset button [5].

To close the Filter tray at any time, click the Close icon [6].

Note: As you select filters, the number of selections displays on the Filter button [7].

To filter the item list by standard, click the Standard drop-down menu [1], and select a standard.

The number of items that exist for each standard in the selected item bank(s) displays [2].

To add additional selections, click the Standard drop-down menu again, and select another standard.

To remove a selected standard, click the Delete icon [3].

To filter the item list by item bank, click the Item Bank drop-down menu [1], and select an item bank. To add additional selections, click the drop-down menu again and select another item bank. All selections display in the field [2].

To remove a selection, click the Delete icon [3].

To filter the item list by question type, click the Question Type drop-down menu [1], and click a question group link [2]. Then, select a question type option from the group [3]. The number of items in the selected item banks that include each question type display [4].  

To go back to question type groups, click the Back link [5].

To add additional selections, click the drop-down menu again and select another question group and type.

Filter by Passages

By default, the item list displays items with and without associated passages. To filter items by whether a passage is associated, click the Expand icon [1].

To filter the item list to only items without passages, click the Items without passages radio button [2].

To filter the item list to only items with passages, click the Items with passages radio button [3]. By default, the item list filters based on all passages.

To filter the item list based on a specific passage, click the Items with passages radio button [1]. Then, select a passage title from the drop-down menu [2].

To filter by difficulty, DOK, or Blooms Taxonomy, expand the group. Then, select Difficulty [1], DOK [2], or Blooms [3] checkboxes.

Filter by Language or Reserved Status

To filter the item list by language or reserved status, expand the Language or Reserved group. Then, to view only items written in a specific language, click the English or Spanish radio button [1]. To view only reserved or unreserved items, click the Reserved or Unreserved radio buttons [2].

To filter the item list to only those that are Gradecam compatible for scanning, suitable for printed assessments, or contain more than one question, expand the Other Features group. Then, click the Gradecam checkbox [1], the Printable checkbox [2], or the Multipart checkbox [3].

You can check as many checkboxes as needed.
